Eye contact is a form of communication I tend to think too much about. To some it is considered a way of indicating you're paying attention to the speaker, but to me, it's much more complicated. Not maintaining enough eye contact throughout a conversation can be construed as bad manners and ignorance, however a lingering look can be interpreted as flirtatious, intimate or occasionally uncomfortable. There's a fine line between too much and too little, and I'm one of those people who doesn't want to seem rude or alternatively encouraging - when infact I don't intend to be either.
